Candice Carella
Candice Carella studied fine art, photography and cinema before first working as a costume designer for music videos and commercials. Her desire to do narrative projects led her to working on multiple TV shows and feature films.
Carella wrote, produced and directed the 30-minute short PONY starring Xander Berkeley (The Walking Dead) and Suzy Nakamura (Snowfall), which, after festivals, aired as ‘movie of the week’ on ShortsTV and received a cable license deal and global distribution with Shorts International.
As a recipient of the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant, Candice wrote, produced and directed THREE DAYS IN THE HOLE, based on a true story about a young Yezidi girl's struggle to survive and escape her ISIS capture in Iraq after the Yezidi genocide. After its festival run, this film also received worldwide distribution.
Next, Candice Carella directed UNICORNS, a modern fresh take on a serious subject, surviving depression. Starring Malik Yoba (New York Undercover, Empire), Markees Christmas (Black-ish), and Hilary Curwen (Bad Nannies), it ultimately shows us that we are not alone in our struggles.
Carella’s films have collectively screened at over 70 film festivals (several Oscar Qualifying), winning 37 festival awards and are available to stream on Amazon, itunes, Google Play, Verizon, and have been curated on Omeleto with over 600K views.
Carella is a member of Women in Film, is on the board of directors at the Alliance for Women Directors and is in the Television Academy. She is also a fellow in the 2022 AWD Directing the Actor Lab.
